Forest Meetings Are More Than A Trend: They Give Our Brains A “Reset”

At Nexus Laboratoire de Régénération, we often choose the forest over the meeting room. I know it’s becoming increasingly fashionable, and even poetic, to hold meetings in Nature, but neuroscience is also confirming that this is a truly good choice.

We have an extensive library of scientific research showing data that confirms this. Today, we’d like to share a recent article published by Neuroscience News, which highlights how time in Nature can literally help the brain reset, reducing mental fatigue, lowering stress activation, and restoring attention capacity.

The article describes exactly what we experience during our work meetings in Nature, especially when we walk among trees:

  •    Attention softens and paradoxically becomes sharper.
  •    Defensive energy lowers, conversations become more open.
  •    The nervous system settles; ideas flow more freely.
  •    Hierarchies dissolve: walking side by side changes dynamics.

It often happens that we’re looking for creative ideas in design a process, seeking a moment of supervision from a colleague, or even facing a conflict where we’re unable to listen to each other. Then, a simple proposal for a walk in the forest opens a space of calm and depth: the connection with Nature allows a different type of connection among us and with our work objectives.

In a traditional meeting room, our brains often remain in “performance mode.” In the forest, they shift into “possibility mode”, and new ideas and innovations arise more naturally.

Movement matters too. Walking activates bilateral stimulation, enhances associative thinking, and interrupts rigid cognitive loops. Many of our best strategic insights have emerged not from staring at slides but from walking through tiny paths.

In fact, the very first spark of our ReSet Game was born during a walk in the Fontainebleau forest. We were searching for a way to keep our Advent Calendar—made of cards inspired by the six principles of Regeneration—alive. While reflecting on this question during the walk, a new perspective with a wider impact suddenly emerged: the possibility to create something different from a simple deck of cards, something more complex and fun, and the first seed for the ReSet Game was planted.

Something very powerful happened and it’s about combining physical movement, natural environments, reflective dialogue, and shared direction. The birth of Reset was made possible by the combination of these conditions that has generated reframing, new thoughts, renewed energy and motivation, and an out-of-the-box ideas.

The article reminds us that Nature, which has helped us in creating something completely new for us, our ReSet game, helps also the brain reset. Taking a walk in Nature can be a great opportunity when we feel stuck, when ideas aren’t coming, or when pressure and stress rise. But it’s not only a tool for emergencies, it can become a daily proactive practice to produce better results in an unconventional and regenerative way.
